Talking To Jesus: A Fresh Perspective On Prayer by Jeannie Blackmer {Review and Give-away}

Let’s face it. The stories in the Bible can be hard to understand let alone relate to at times. There is not a lot of information to help us discover the relevancy for our lives today. So I love when a good storyteller captures our imagination and helps us see ourselves in the stories. Especially the stories of Jesus. This is exactly what Jeannie Blackmer accomplishes with her new book Talking To Jesus: A Fresh Perspective On Prayer.  With the gift for filling in details from a fictional perspective, Jeannie brings the stories found in the Gospel of Matthew alive for the reader. She masterfully engages our heart and our emotions as she draws us in as a friend of someone paralyzed by life (I was in tears) as she challenges us to be the kind of friend who brings people to Jesus. She helps us walk in the shoes of Jairus, a Jewish ruler, John and other disciples on a stormy night, Simon the Leper, and Peter as he asks how many times he must forgive someone who has wronged him. Expanding our notions of what these stories can mean for us while remaining steadfastly true to the written Word, Ms. Blackmer helps us understand that we too can talk to Jesus. Just like all of those other people did.

Talking to Jesus invites us to enter into conversation with the Lord about situations in our lives that mirror those so artfully captured by Ms. Blackmer. And that is the whole desire of her book – to encourage readers to engage in conversation, talk to Jesus, in order to discover him anew.   After all, isn’t that what prayer is and does?

Talking to Jesus helps the seasoned believer rediscover the stories that have possibly become a little stale. But it is also a treasure for a new believer, or someone seeking Jesus. I’d love to help you encourage someone new in, or still coming to, their faith by giving you a copy of  Talking to Jesus; A Fresh Perspective On Prayer to give to them. Leave a comment below about who you want to encourage with this book to be entered for this give-away.
